Dancing Through Victoria with the Hollytree Morris Dancers

Our Golden Year

We decided to celebrate our Golden Jubilee with three dance-outs: With the other two local sides – Island Thyme Morris and Quicksbottom Morris – on June 15th; with Seattle’s Sound and Fury Morris and our local sides on July 6th, and later in the summer – date TBD – with the Vancouver Morris Men, Tiddley Cove Morris and our local sides.

Our golden kit

We added lots of gold touches to our kit: Gold ribbons on our arms and hats, gold laces in our shoes, gold hankies to wave, a sprig of gold holly and a gold badge.

June 15th Dance-out

We gathered at the Bent Mast for lunch, danced at Fisherman’s Wharf Park and the BC Legislature, and then off to our home pub, Christie’s Carriage House, for the evening.

July 6th Dance-out

We gathered at Spinnakers for lunch, danced at Songhees Park and the BC Legislature, and then off to our home pub, Christie’s Carriage House, for the evening.

Our spiffy new banner and gold badge

Thanks to the design work and handicraft of Stephen and Hilary Brown we have the spiffy new banner shown in the photo, with elements of the Forest of Dean jacket patches incorporated.

Also, and thanks to the design and crafting skills of Steve Leithwood, we have the gold-embossed leather badge shown at the top of the page,

Another column about Hollytree Morris by Trevor Hancock

Trevor writes a regular weekly column on population and public health matters for our regional daily newspaper, the Times Colonist. The one celebrating our Golden Jubilee is on a separate page on this site. He wrote another column about us in 2015, here is the link:
